The Use Of Nasal Dilator

Different snoring cases require different solutions. In a study carried out by Turnbull et al, 35 24 women between the 16th and 39th weeks of gestation with nasal congestion were randomized into two groups: one of them used placebo, and the other an END ( Table 4 ). This nose dilator is usually used by athletes, people who have operated on the nose, people with sleep problems like snoring or sleep apnea, people with nasal narrowing, CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure) patients to improve the pressure relief, and people with chronic nasal congestion.

Results showed that the BRNS strip significantly reduced daytime sleepiness on the Stanford Sleepiness Scale; improved self-reported ease of breathing, quality of sleep, sleepiness upon awakening, morning concentration, and number of awakenings; and improved partner reports of snoring loudness and movement.

Apnea was defined as the complete cessation of airflow for at least 10 seconds and associated with an oxygen desaturation of 3%. Hypopnea was defined as a significant reduction (>50%) in respiratory signals for at least 10 seconds and associated with an oxygen desaturation of 3%. The apnea–hypopnea index (AHI) value was calculated as the total number of respiratory events (apneas plus hypopneas) per hours of sleep (14).
According to snorers in a market-study, almost all of the people in the study have used external dilators now on the market, and they all advised that these dilators provide only a slight improvement in breathing (because of the inherent limitation explained above).

3. A nasal dilator comprising in combination: spreading means having a portion for insertion in the nasal opening to act on at least one nostril wall of the wearer for increasing said nasal opening to improve the breathing of the wearer; and retaining means including a flexible strip operatively connected to said spreading means and having adhesive means adapted to be pressed onto the outer nasal surface by the wearer, for preventing said dilator from falling out of said nasal opening.
